Music about the State of the World
Does anyone know any reasonably appropriate music which doesn’t completely suck, about the state of the world?
I can think of the Black Eyed Peas’ ‘Where is the Love‘ (which can be watched by clicking here) and Simple Plan’s ‘Everybody Gone Crazy’.
Give me a hand with this. It’s out of my league.
K.
Also regarding the ‘About Me’ previous post, I have scored each response. It appears under each of your comments, in Bold.

If you want a Christian version you could go with Prince of Peace. Actually if I really wanted to help I’m sure I could find oodles.

“Ballad of Accounting” by Ewan MacColl. It’s not new, but still seems to speak to current concerns.

This screams out about the lost world, the pain each individual holds and while they may not show it or share it openly in public…when they are alone to their thoughts and feelings they certainly realize that they are indeed all alone in a seemingly cold uncaring world which doesn’t even acknowledge their very existence. The lonliness is deafening and those chosen by God to be His hands of comfort and lead others to hope in this world have grown lazy and content to live their own lives without the inconvenience of reaching out to those in dire need. They would sooner judge, scorn and comdemn those that don’t “appear” to be worthy of God’s riches and Glory as if it was theirs to hoard.
Here are the Lyrics:
She is running
A hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction
She is trying
But the canyon’s ever widening
In the depths of her cold heart
So she sets out on another misadverture just to find
She’s another two years older
And she’s three more steps behind
Chorus:
Does anybody hear her?
Can anybody see?
Lord does anybody even know she’s going down today?
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that’s tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her?
Can anybody see?
She is yearning
For shelter and affection
That she never found at home
She is searching
For a hero to ride in
To ride in and save the day
And in walks her prince charming
And he knows just what to say
Momentary lapse of reason
And she gives herself away
Chorus
If judgement looms under every steeple
If lofty glances from lofty people
Can’t see past her scarlet letter
And we never even met her
If judgement looms under every steeple
If lofty glances from lofty people
Can’t see past her scarlet letter
And we never even met her
Chorus 2x
He is running a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction
Hope you like it!

Thank you so far people. Someone privately suggested Jewel, which I am ashamed to say that I forgot all about. She certainly fits very appropriately the very general question I asked.

um, try Dido and Sarah Mac.
My roomate Melissa suggests Tracey Chapman.
Also, here is my personal favourite, however it is very powerful and wonderfully describes the state of some parts of North America (mainly the ghettos): Immortal Technique “Dance With The Devil.”
Be warned though, it is very graphic.

on second thought, Dance WIth The Devil is very inappropriate…as i overlooked your request for “appropriate” music. I am assuming it has something to do with a school assignment….Immortal Technique might not be the best choice hah…
